Intended use
Your Black & Decker iron has been designed for ironing
garments made of linen, cotton, silk, wool and synthetic
materials. This product is intended for household use only.
Safety instructions
◆Warning! When using mains-powered appliances, basic
safety precautions, including the following, should always
be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and
personal injury.
◆Read all of this manual carefully before using the appliance.
◆The intended use is described in this manual. The use of
any accessory or attachment or the performance of any
operation with this appliance other than those recommended
in this instruction manual may present a risk of personal
injury.
◆Retain this manual for future reference.
Using your appliance
◆Always take care when using the appliance.
◆Do not use the appliance outdoors.
◆Do not operate the appliance if your hands are wet.
Do not operate the appliance if you are barefoot.
◆Guide the power supply cord neatly so it does not hang
over the edge of a worktop and cannot be caught
accidentally or tripped over.
◆Never pull the power supply cord to disconnect the plug
from the socket. Keep the power supply cord away from
heat, oil and sharp edges.
◆If the power supply cord is damaged during use,
disconnect the appliance from the power supply
immediately. Do not touch the power supply cord before
disconnecting from the power supply.
◆Disconnect the appliance from the power supply when not
in use and before cleaning.
Safety of others
◆Do not allow children or any person unfamiliar with these
instructions to use the appliance.
◆Do not allow children or animals to come near the work
area or to touch the appliance or power supply cord.
Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is
used near children.
After use
◆Switch off, remove the plug from the socket and let the
appliance cool down before leaving it unattended and
before changing, cleaning or inspecting any parts of the
appliance.
◆When not in use, the appliance should be stored in a dry
place. Children should not have access to stored
appliances.
Inspection and repairs
◆Before use, check the appliance for damaged or defective
parts. Check for breakage of parts, damage to switches
and any other conditions that may affect its operation.
◆Do not use the appliance if any part is damaged or defective.
◆Have any damaged or defective parts repaired or replaced
by an authorised repair agent.
◆Before use, check the power supply cord for signs of
damage, ageing and wear.
◆Do not use the appliance if the power supply cord or
mains plug is damaged or defective.
◆If the power supply cord or mains plug is damaged or
defective it must be repaired by an authorised repair
agent in order to avoid a hazard. Do not cut the power
supply cord and do not attempt to repair it yourself.
◆Never attempt to remove or replace any parts other than
those specified in this manual.
Electrical safety
◆Always check that the mains voltage corresponds to the
voltage on the rating plate.
◆This product must be earthed.
◆Do not immerse the appliance, power supply cord
or plug in water or other liquid.
◆If it is necessary to use an extension cable, use
an approved 3-core cable suitable for the power
input of this product (see rating plate).
Additional safety instructions for irons
◆Always route the cord carefully to avoid a tripping hazerd.
◆Do not use the appliance near water.
◆Do not place the appliance near heat sources or directly
under cabinets. Do not use the appliance in the presence
of explosive or flammable materials.
◆The filling apperture must not be opened during use.
◆Steam may escape from the soleplate.
◆Surfaces may be hot during use and during the cooldown
period.
◆Set the temperature control dial to the min position
before plugging in or out.
◆Let the appliance cool down before leaving it unattended
and before cleaning or inspecting any parts of the appliance.
◆The power supply cord should not touch the hot soleplate
during use or during the cool down period.
◆Do not touch the soleplate until it has cooled down.
◆Wait until the appliance has cooled down before
emptying the water tank as the water may still be hot.
◆Always diconnect the appliance from the supply before
filling, emptying, cleaning, or carying out any
maintenance on the appliance.

Before first use
Cleaning the soleplate
◆Make sure that the appliance is unplugged.
◆Fill the appliance with water as described below.
◆Use the self-clean system as described below.
When finished, wipe the soleplate and steam vents with
a cloth.
Some parts of the appliance have been lightly greased and as
a result the appliance may smoke slightly when switched on
for the first time. This will cease after a short while.
Assembly
Warning! Before assembly, make sure that the appliance is
switched off and unplugged.
Filling the water tank (fig. A)
In order to be able to use the steam function or the spray
feature, you will first need to fill the water tank with water.
◆Make sure that the appliance is unplugged.
◆Open the water tank cover (7).
◆Hold the appliance at an angle as shown.
◆Fill the appliance with water using the beaker provided.
◆Close the water tank cover.
Warning! Never fill above the maximum filling level (11).
Normal tap water can be used, but if you live in a hard water
area the use of distilled water is recommended. Do not use
chemically descaled water.
Use
Warning! Do not leave the appliance unattended while it is
connected to the power supply and during the cool down period.
Temperature setting
The required temperature setting depends on the garment fabric.
◆Adjust the temperature control dial (1) to the required
setting:
●Synthetics
● ● Silk, wool
● ● ● Cotton, linen
If you are unsure of the fibre content of a garment, start with
a low temperature setting and test on a small area (seam or
inside hem). If wrinkles remain, gradually increase the heat
setting until you find the optimum setting.
Using as a dry iron
◆Stand the appliance on its heel rest (13).
◆Plug the appliance in and switch on.
◆Set the steam control dial (4) to the ’O’ position.
◆Adjust the temperature control dial (1) to the required
setting.
The heating light (2) will switch off when the appliance has
reached the required temperature.
Using as a steam iron
◆Fill the water tank as described above.
◆Stand the appliance on its heel rest (13).
◆Plug the appliance in and switch on.
◆Adjust the temperature control dial (1) to the required
steam setting.
The green heating light (2) will switch on. When the heating
light switches off, the iron will be ready for use as a steam
iron. The heating light will regularly switch on and off whilst
ironing.
◆To create steam, set the steam control dial (4) to the
required steam position.
Using the steam burst button
The steam burst feature can only be used whilst ironing on
a high temperature setting.
◆Make sure that there is water in the tank and the
temperature control dial (1) is set to the required steam
position.
◆Lift the appliance and press the steam burst button (5).
You may need to press a few times to activate the pump.
Vertical steaming
The appliance can also be held vertically to remove creases
from hanging clothes, curtains etc.
Using the spray button
The spray feature can be used at any temperature setting
when either steam or dry ironing.

◆Make sure that there is water in the tank.
◆Press the button (6) several times to activate the pump
while you are ironing.
Using the self-clean button
The self-clean function must be used before using the appliance
for the first time and then regularly to remove scale.
◆Fill the tank (10) to the maximum filling level (11).
◆Set the temperature control dial (1) to the max position.
◆Plug the appliance in and switch on.
◆Allow the appliance to heat up until the heating light (2)
switches off and then on again.
◆Unplug the appliance and hold it horizontally over the
sink.
◆Press the self-clean button (3).
Hot water and steam will come out of the vents.
Impurities and scale will be washed away.
◆Move the iron backwards and forwards while this is
happening.
◆Release the self-clean button.
◆Stand the appliance upright on its heel.
◆Plug the appliance in and switch on.
◆Iron an old cloth or towel to dry the soleplate.
Anti-drip feature
The anti-drip feature ensures that the appliance will not drip
water at low temperatures after steaming. Steaming will
restart as soon as a suitable steam ironing temperature has
been selected.
XT2020 - Auto shut-off mode
This appliance has an electronic auto shut-off safety feature.
It will automatically switch off the appliance if plugged in but
not moved for 30 seconds whilst in horizontal position,
or 8 minutes whilst in standing on its heel, and the amber
shut-off indicator (2) starts flashing.
◆To cancel the auto shut-off mode, move the appliance
and, if necessary, wait for the green heating light (2) to
switch off.
Warning! The auto shut-off function is an additional safety
feature and must not be relied upon to routinely shut off the
appliance.
After use
◆Set the temperature control dial (1) to the min position.
◆Remove the plug from the socket.
◆Place the appliance on the heel rest (13) to let it cool
down.
Warning! Do not leave the appliance unattended until it has
cooled down.
Hints for optimum use
◆Sort the articles to be ironed according to the fabric. Start
ironing with the fabrics requiring the lowest heat setting.
◆The appliance can be used as a dry iron even if there is
water in the tank. Do not fill the tank with water if the
appliance is to be used as a dry iron for an extended period.
◆Avoid ironing over zippers, rivets on jeans etc. as they will
scratch the soleplate.
Cleaning and storage
Warning! Before cleaning and storing, unplug the appliance
and allow it to cool down.
◆Pour out any remaining water after each use by tilting the
appliance forward.
◆Clean the body with a soft damp cloth.
◆Wipe scale and other residues off the soleplate with a
damp cloth.
◆Store in an upright position. The cord can be wound
around the cord storage (12).

◆Regolare la ghiera di controllo della temperatura sulla
posizione minima (min) prima di inserire o disinserire
la spina.
◆Attendere il raffreddamento dell’elettromestico prima di
lasciarlo incustodito e prima di cambiare, pulire o ispezionare
qualsiasi sua parte.
◆Il cavo di alimentazione non deve toccare la piastra rovente
durante l’uso o durante il periodo di raffreddamento.
◆Non toccare la piastra finché non si è raffreddata.
◆Attendere il raffreddamento dell’elettromestico prima
di svuotare il serbatoio dell’acqua, perché l’acqua
potrebbe essere ancora molto calda.
◆Scollegare sempre l’elettromestico dalla rete
di alimentazione prima di ogni operazione di rabbocco,
svuotamento e pulizia e prima di ogni intervento

Prima di usare l’elettrodomestico
per la prima volta
Pulizia della piastra
◆Assicurarsi che la spina dell’elettrodomestico sia disinserita.
◆Riempire l’elettrodomestico con acqua come descritto più
avanti.
◆Utilizzare il sistema di pulitura automatica come descritto
più avanti. Al termine, asciugare la piastra e i fori per il
vapore con un panno.
Su alcune parti dell’elettrodomestico è stato applicato un leggero
velo di grasso e di conseguenza, alla prima accensione,
potrebbe svilupparsi un po’ di fumo. Questo inconveniente
cesserà dopo poco.
Montaggio
Attenzione! Prima del montaggio, verificare che l’elettrodomestico
sia spento e che la spina sia disinserita dalla presa.
Riempimento del serbatoio dell’acqua (fig. A)
Per poter utilizzare le funzioni del getto di vapore e di
nebulizzazione d’acqua (spray), è necessario per prima cosa
riempire con acqua l’apposito serbatoio.
◆Assicurarsi che la spina dell’elettrodomestico sia disinserita.
◆Aprire il coperchio del serbatoio dell’acqua (7).
◆Sostenere l’elettrodomestico in posizione inclinata, come
illustrato.
◆Riempire l’elettrodomestico con acqua usando il misurino
in dotazione.
◆Chiudere il coperchio del serbatoio dell’acqua.
Attenzione! Non riempire mai oltre l’indicatore di massimo
livello (11). È possibile utilizzare acqua di rubinetto.
Tuttavia, se questa risulta particolarmente dura, si consiglia
l’uso di acqua distillata. Non usare acqua trattata
chimicamente per eliminare le incrostazioni.
Uso
Attenzione! Non lasciare incustodito l’apparecchio quando
è collegato alla rete di alimentazione o durante il periodo di
raffreddamento.
Regolazione della temperatura
La temperatura ottimale dipende dal tipo di tessuto.
◆Impostare il quadrante di regolazione della temperatura
(1) nella posizione desiderata.
●Fibre sintetiche
● ● Seta, lana
● ● ● Cotone, lino
Se non si è sicuri circa il contenuto di fibre di un dato tessuto,
cominciare con una temperatura bassa e provare a stirare una
piccola zona (cucitura oppure orlo interno). Se rimangono delle
grinze, aumentare gradualmente la temperatura fino a trovare
quella ideale.
Utilizzo come ferro da stiro a secco
◆Collocare l’elettrodomestico in verticale appoggiato sul
supporto posteriore (13).
◆Inserire la spina nella presa e accendere l’elettrodomestico.
◆Posizionare su “O” il quadrante di controllo del vapore (4).
◆Impostare il quadrante di regolazione della temperatura
(1) nella posizione desiderata.
La spia del riscaldamento (2) si spegne quando
l’elettrodomestico ha raggiunto la temperatura desiderata.
Utilizzo come ferro da stiro a vapore
◆Riempire il serbatoio dell’acqua come descritto sopra.
◆Collocare l’elettrodomestico in verticale appoggiato sul
supporto posteriore (13).

◆Inserire la spina nella presa e accendere
l’elettrodomestico.

Utilizzo del pulsante per il getto di vapore
La funzione del getto di vapore può essere utilizzata solo
durante la stiratura ad elevata temperatura.
◆Assicurarsi che il serbatoio contenga sufficiente acqua
e che il quadrante di regolazione della temperatura (1) sia
nella posizione di vapore desiderata.
◆Sollevare l’elettrodomestico e premere il pulsante del
getto di vapore (5). Può essere necessario premere più
volte per attivare la pompa.
Emissione del vapore in verticale
L’elettromestico può anche essere mantenuto in posizione
verticale per rimuovere pieghe da vestiti appesi, tende, ecc.
Utilizzo del pulsante di nebulizzazione
La funzione di nebulizzazione può essere utilizzata a qualsiasi
temperatura, sia durante la stiratura a secco che durante
la stiratura a vapore.
◆Assicurarsi che vi sia acqua nel serbatoio.
◆Premere più volte il pulsante (6) per attivare la pompa
durante la stiratura.
Utilizzo del pulsante di pulitura automatica
La funzione di pulitura automatica deve essere utilizzata prima
di adoperare l’elettrodomestico per la prima volta e in seguito
regolarmente, per rimuovere le incrostazioni.
◆Riempire il serbatoio (10) fino al livello massimo (11).
◆Impostare sulla posizione massima (max) il quadrante
di regolazione della temperatura (1).
◆Inserire la spina nella presa e accendere
l’elettrodomestico.
◆Attendere il riscaldamento dell’elettrodomestico finché
la spia di riscaldamento (2) non si spegne e quindi non si
accende nuovamente.
◆Disinserire la spina e mantenere l’elettrodomestico in
orizzontale sopra il lavello.
◆Premere il pulsante di pulitura automatica (3).
Acqua bollente e vapore fuoriusciranno dalle aperture.
Impurità ed incrostazioni verranno sciacquate via.
◆Mentre fuoriescono acqua e vapore, scuotere il ferro
avanti e indietro.
◆Rilasciare il pulsante di pulitura automatica.
◆Collocare l’elettrodomestico in verticale appoggiato sul
supporto posteriore.
◆Inserire la spina nella presa e accendere l’elettrodomestico.
◆Per asciugare la piastra, stirare un vecchio panno o una
vecchia tovaglia.
Funzione anti-gocciolamento
La funzione di blocco del gocciolamento assicura che
l’elettrodomestico non goccioli alle basse temperature, dopo
aver emesso del vapore. L’emissione di vapore riprenderà non
appena si seleziona una temperatura adatta alla stiratura
a vapore.
XT2020 – Modalità di spegnimento automatico
Questo elettrodomestico è munito della funzione di
spegnimento automatico di sicurezza. Tale funzione spegnerà
automaticamente l’elettrodomestico quando, con la spina
inserita nella rete elettrica, rimane immobile per 30 secondi,
se in posizione orizzontale, o per 8 minuti se in posizione
verticale sul supporto posteriore. In tale condizione la spia
ambra (2) di spegnimento automatico inizierà a lampeggiare.
◆Per interrompere la modalità di spegnimento automatico,
muovere l’elettrodomestico e, se necessario, attendere lo
spegnimento della spia verde di riscaldamento (2).
Attenzione! La funzione di spegnimento automatico costituisce
una misura supplementare di sicurezza e non deve essere
utilizzata per il normale spegnimento dell’elettrodomestico.
Dopo l’uso
◆Impostare sulla posizione minima (min) il quadrante di
regolazione della temperatura (1).
◆Estrarre la spina dalla presa.
◆Collocare l’elettrodomestico sul supporto posteriore (13)
per permetterne il raffreddamento.
Attenzione! Non lasciare incustodito l’elettrodomestico
finchè non si è raffreddato.
Consigli per un’ottima utilizzazione
◆Raggruppare i vestiti da stirare a seconda del tipo di
tessuto. Cominciare la stiratura con il tessuto che richiede
la temperatura più bassa.
◆L’elettrodomestico può essere usato a secco anche se il
serbatoio contiene acqua. Non riempire il serbatoio con
acqua se l’elettrodomestico deve essere usato come ferro
da stiro a secco per lunghi periodi di tempo.

◆Evitare di stirare su cerniere, rivetti dei jeans, ecc. perché
potrebbero graffiare la piastra.
Pulizia e conservazione
Attenzione! Spegnere l’elettrodomestico e disinserirne la
spina dalla presa, prima di pulirlo o di riporlo.
◆Dopo l’uso, inclinare l’elettrodomestico in avanti per
scaricare l’acqua residua.
◆Pulire il corpo del ferro con un panno morbido inumidito.
◆Usare un panno umido per eliminare incrostazioni e altri
residui dalla piastra.
◆Riporre il ferro da stiro in posizione verticale. Il cavo di
alimentazione può essere avvolto nell’apposito scomparto
(12).

Utilización del aparato
◆Tenga siempre cuidado cuando utilice este aparato.
◆No utilice este aparato en el exterior.
◆No utilice el aparato con las manos mojadas. No utilice el
aparato estando descalzo.
◆Guíe el cable eléctrico con cuidado para que no cuelgue
por encima del borde de la superficie de trabajo y pueda
engancharse accidentalmente o tropezarse con él.
◆Nunca tire del cable eléctrico para desconectarlo del
enchufe. Mantenga el cable eléctrico alejado del calor,
el aceite y los bordes afilados.
◆Si el cable eléctrico se dañara durante el uso, desconecte
inmediatamente el aparato de la red. No toque el cable
eléctrico antes de desconectar el aparato de la red.
◆Desconecte el aparato de la red cuando no lo utilice
y antes de limpiarlo.
Seguridad de otras personas
◆No deje que el aparato sea utilizado por niños o por personas
que no estén familiarizadas con estas instrucciones de uso.
◆No permita que niños, otras personas o animales se
acerquen al área de trabajo ni toquen el aparato o el
cable eléctrico. Es necesario estar muy atento cuando se
utiliza el aparato cerca de niños.
Cuando acabe de utilizar el aparato
◆Apague el aparato, desenchúfelo de la toma de corriente
y deje que se enfríe si va a dejarlo desatendido y antes de
cambiar, limpiar o inspeccionar piezas del aparato.
◆Cuando no se use, el aparato debe guardarse en un lugar
seco. Los niños no deben tener acceso a los aparatos
guardados.
Inspección y reparaciones
◆Antes de utilizarlo, revise el aparato para ver si está
dañado o tiene piezas defectuosas. Compruebe si hay
alguna pieza rota, algún interruptor dañado o cualquier
cosa que pudiera afectar a su funcionamiento.
◆No utilice el aparato si hay alguna pieza dañada
o defectuosa.
◆Encargue al servicio técnico autorizado que repare
o sustituya las piezas defectuosas o averiadas.

o defectuosos, hay que sustituirlos en un servicio técnico
autorizado con el fin de evitar cualquier peligro. No corte
el cable eléctrico y no trate de repararlo usted mismo.
◆No intente nunca extraer o sustituir ninguna de las piezas
que no sean las especificadas en este manual.

Instrucciones de seguridad adicionales para planchas
◆Guíe el cable con cuidado para evitar tropezar.
◆No utilice este aparato cerca de agua.
◆No coloque el aparato cerca de fuentes de calor ni
directamente debajo de armarios. No utilice el aparato en
presencia de explosivos o materiales inflamables.
◆La abertura de llenado no debe abrirse durante el uso.
◆Puede escapar vapor por la suela.
◆Las superficies pueden estar calientes durante el uso
y el periodo de enfriamiento.
◆Antes de enchufar o desenchufar la plancha, coloque el
dial de control de temperatura en la posición mín.
◆Deje que se enfríe el aparato si va a dejarlo desatendido y
antes de cambiar, limpiar o inspeccionar piezas del mismo.
◆El cable eléctrico no debe tocar la suela durante la
utilización de la plancha ni durante el periodo de
enfriamiento.
◆No toque la suela hasta que no se haya enfriado por
completo.
