INSTALLATION AND TURN UP
InstalltheDFR3onthefrontwindshieldoronthe
dashboard.Forbestperformance,positionthedetectoras
lowaspossibleinthecenterofthefrontwindshield.Be
suretheunit’sviewoftheroad,eithertothefrontorthe
back,isclear.
INSTALLATION
WINDSHIELD
1. Cleanthewindshieldandtherubbercupsofthe
mountingbracket.Attachtherubbercupstothe
bracket.
2. Pushthebracketfirmlyontothewindshield.
3. Slidetheunitontothebracket.
4. Gentlyadjustthebracketangleifneeded.
Do not use the detector to adjust the bracket angle.
5. Plugthepowercordintothedetector.
6. Plugthecigarettelighteradapterintothevehicle’s
cigarettelighter.
Youcanremovethedetectorbypressingthe button.Eject
Dashboard
1. Placetheunitonthedashboardsothatithasaclear,
levelviewoftheroad.
The unit cannot be readjusted aer nal installaon.
2. Removethebackingfromonesideofthehookandloop
fastenertape.
3. Placethatfastenertapeonthedashboardwhereyou
wanttheunit.
4. Attachtheotherpieceofthefastenertapetothe
bottomoftheunitandattachtheunittothedashboard
fastenertape.
You can remove the unit as needed.
5. Plugthepowercordintothedetector.
6. Plugthecigarettelighteradapterintothevehicle’s
cigarettelighter.
TURN UP
Oncethedetectorisinstalledandthecaristurnedon,turn
thevolumedialawayfromyouuntilitclicks.Theunitis
nowturnedon.
TheLEDcyclesthroughthedisplayinthisorder:X-K-Ka-
Laser,thensignalstrengthexceptforLaser(L).
Oncethecycleiscomplete,thedetectorturnstostandby
mode.

DETECTION
TheDFR3detectsemissionsfromradargunsandsoundsan
audioalertforthedriver.Thedetectordetermineswhich
bandrangethesignalisfromanddisplaysthatfrequency
typeonthedisplay(X,K,Ka,orL).Thefrequencystrength
(1through5)alsodisplaysasapplicable.Ifthereisa
specificalertcode,thatisalsodisplayed.
False signals can come from other devices such as the
automac doors at a supermarket or even another
car’s cruise control; these devices operate in the
same frequency ranges as radar guns.
BANDS
TheDFR3recognizes:
• XBand:Thisbandwasthefirstfrequencybandassigned
topoliceradar.Itoperatedonalowerfrequency
(10.525GHz)withahigherpoweroutput.
• KBand:Thisbandisthemostcommonfrequencyused
inradardetectors(24.150).Itsrelativelysmall
wavelengthgivesitaclockingdistanceofabout1/4mile
although,dependingontheenvironment,itcandetect
upto2miles.TurnontheKbandfilter(pressandhold
CITY)tofilteroutweakerKbandfrequenciesandreduce
falsereadings.
• KaBand:Overtheyears,theKabandincorporatedthe
Ka-Band,theKaWide-Band,andtheKaSuperWide-
Band.Mostphotoradars(alsoknownasstoplight
cameras)usethisband.
POP™ is a single-pulse Doppler radar feature on some
K and Ka band radar guns. This type of radar gun is
a very sensive receiver; limit POP detect mode to
highway and rural driving.
• Laser:Policeusethelaser’snarrowerlightpulsesfor
speeddetectionasitismoreaccurateandfaster.Laser
beamsaremoredetectableaftertheyhavebouncedoff
theirtargetandbegintodisperseonthereturntrip.

bandsandlaseraredetected.Recommendedfor
highwayorruraldriving.(X,K,Ka,Laser)
• City.Providesaudioandvisualalertsanytimeallbands
andlaseraredetected.Providesastrongersignalforthe
Xbandsoitcanpickupweakersignals.(X,K,Ka,Laser)
• CityI.SimilartoCitymode,butnoXbandisdetected.

SETUP
Afterinstallingyourradardetector,youcansetittoyour
ownspecifications.
• Mute/AutoMute.Whenanaudioalertsounds,pressing
MUTEletsyouturnofftheaudioalarm.Pressandhold
MUTEtosetAutoMutetoONtoreducetheaudio
alarmby50%automaticallyafter3secondsduringan
alert.
• Dim.Changethebrightnessofthedisplay.(Default-
Bright)
• SetCity,CityI,orHighway
