Configure the ZyXEL Prestige 2000W to work with the
Internet Gate
Note that the ZyXEL cradle is only used for charging batteries in the
ZyXEL handset, not for supporting wireless LAN or Internet
connection. The Internet Gate will be used as wireless access point for
the ZyXEL handset. This guide assumes that you already have your
Internet Gate up and running. If you are having problems in getting
your Internet Gate to work please refer to the user guides at
www.intertex.se/files/ix67support.htm. Make sure to always have your
Internet Gate and the phone updated with the latest firmware. You will
find information on how to upgrade your Internet Gate firmware at
www.intertex.se/files/upgradefirmware.htm. This guide assumes you
have ZyXEL’s firmware WJ.00.10 (from April 2005)1.

1 Basic configurations
Note: The ZyXEL Prestige 2000W does not support IP fragmentation, that is dividing
large IP packets into smaller ones. If IP packets grow too large, the ZyXEL phone can
simply not handle them. To use the TCP protocol instead of UDP would solve this
problem. Unfortunately the ZyXEL phone only supports the UDP protocol and not TCP.
One factor that makes the IP packet grow is the SIP VIA header. For each new hop (for
instance SIP gateways, SIP proxys etc) a new SIP VIA header is added to the SIP
signalling message. In the Internet Gate there is a way to limit the sizes of IP packets by
stripping the VIA header on incoming SIP calls. By enabling this feature it is more likely
that the ZyXEL phone will accept incoming calls. This will not cause any other problems,

since the VIA headers are added again to the outgoing response. See section 2.4 below on
how to limit the size of IP packets in the Internet Gate.
1. Connect the power cable from your ZyXEL cradle to your power outlet.
2. Switch on the ZyXEL handset by holding down the key during a few seconds.
If it does not respond, the battery might not be charged. Charge the batteries and try
again later
1.1 Two basic ways to setup your phone / client
You can use your SIP phone/client in two basic ways:
(A) registered at an operator’s2 SIP server, or
(B) registered at your Internet Gate, using the Internet Gate as the SIP server.
(A) If you will register your client at an operator’s SIP server, you should skip section 1.4
below and instead follow the SIP setup descriptions given by your operator. In this case
you do not need to do any configuration of SIP accounts on your Internet Gate. Also, make
sure to turn off any NAT or firewall traversal tricks such as STUN, TURN, ICE in your
phone. The Internet Gate is SIP transparent by default and will forward outgoing and
incoming SIP traffic.
(B) If the Internet Gate will be used as SIP server, you should setup user accounts on it.
The Internet Gate supports SIP server registrations both from the LAN and the WAN (e.g.
Internet). By default the Internet Gate will grant all SIP server registrations from the LAN
without any authentication. In order to control who is allowed and who is disallowed to
register, users from the WAN (e.g. Internet) must have a pre-configured account registered
on the Internet Gate. Our recommendation is that you setup user accounts on the Internet
Gate for all users – whether LAN users or WAN users - since this gives you administration
control and give the users maximum flexibility. Also, if you have the SIP Switch software
upgrade installed the setup of user accounts makes it easy to assign a short extension
number to each user. Please refer to www.intertex.se/upfiles/SIPSwitchDescription.pdf for
more info on setting up short extension numbers with the SIP Switch.
1.2 Configuring the wireless network on the Internet Gate
1. Surf into your Internet Gate by entering http://192.168.0.1 in your web browser’s
URL- field.
2. Below Configurations: choose Network.
3. Verify that the wireless setting AIR used as is not disabled and that the DHCP
server box is checked.
4. Choose Wireless Settings
5. Enter a suitable wireless network name in the text box Network Name
(SSID), e.g. IGSIP.
6. It is recommended that you in some way limit the access to your wireless network
since your LAN otherwise is completely open and vulnerable to attacks. There are
several ways to limit the wireless access: a) using WEP encryption with a associated

WEP key (this will encrypt all traffic carried over the wireless network) and b)
specifying the MAC addresses of the particular wireless units you want to use with
your Internet Gate. The latter will not encrypt the traffic, which means that it is still
vulnerable to eaves-dropping. It is possible to use both WEP encryption and use
MAC address limitation at the same time on your Internet Gate.
If you are using WEP encryption
7. On the Wireless Settings page, Check the check box Enable Encryption
(WEP).
8. Enter a WEP encryption key, e.g. 1122334455 (which is a 64 bit WEP key).
9. Press Save & Reboot at the bottom of the web page to save your settings.
If you are using MAC address limitation
10. Before you can do this you must determine the MAC address of your ZyXEL
handset. To do this, please refer to section 2.1 Determine the MAC address of your
ZyXEL handset, below.
11. To setup MAC address limitations on the Internet Gate, on the Wireless
Settings page, check the check box Access Control.
12. In the list below, Add to trusted list, enter the MAC addresses you wish to
grant access to the wireless network, e.g. 00-03-2A-00-40-ED (the numbers are
separated with a minus sign).
13. Press Save & Reboot at the bottom of the web page to save your settings.
1.3 Configuring the wireless network on the ZyXEL handset
1. Press the upper left button for Menu.
2. Scroll down and select 4. Net Settings
3. In the 1. Network Mode frame, select [2]DHCP, for receiving a dynamic IP
address.
4. Press the upper right button to return to the main menu.
5. Select 7. Wireless.
6. Select 1. Site Survey to scan for available access points.
7. Select preferred wireless network, e.g. IGSIP (or whichever SSID name you have
given to it).
If you are using WEP encryption
8. Scroll down and select 6. WEP Select on your ZyXEL handset.
9. Select 64 128 or bit (depending on what you have set on your Internet Gate).
10. Select WEP key 1 and enter the WEP key you have set on your Internet Gate, e.g.
1122334455 (which is a 64 bit WEP key).
11. Press the upper right button to go back to the main menu.
