Product User Safety Information
1. Read and follow the instructions
• Alwaysfollowtheinstructionsprovidedintheproduct'susermanual,onthepackaging
orontheproductitself.Onlyusetheproductafteryouhavereadandunderstoodthe
safetyinformation.Donotusetheproductforpurposesotherthantheonesdescribed.
• Keeptheusermanualinasafeplace.Ifyouhandovertheproducttosomeoneelse,
makesureyouincludetheusermanual.
2. Child safety hazards
• Keepanyproductthatisnotintendedtobeatoyoutofthereachofchildren.Young
childrenareunabletoassessrisksproperly.
• Caution!Ifaproductisatoy,readandfollowtheinstructionsprovidedintheenclosed
usermanual(seeSection1)beforegivingthetoytoachild.
Toyscomewitharecommendedagedeterminedbytheproductmanufacturer.Ifyouig-
norethisagerecommendationbasedonthecurrentdevelopment/abilitiesofyourchild
youdosoatyourownperil.Sometoysmayonlybeusedunderparentalsupervision.
• Toysnotintendedforusebychildrenunder3yearsofage:Caution:Notsuitablefor

3. User hazards
• Don'tuse productsthat sportvisible damage.Based onthe productand thetype of
damage, such products may cause injuries (e.g. by sharp edges) or death (e.g. by
electrocution).
• Forsafetyandlegalreasons,anyunauthorisedmodicationoftheproductisnotpermit-
ted.Donotremovethehousingordisassembletheproduct.Nouser-servicableparts
inside.Anyrepairmustbecarriedoutbyaqualiedserviceengineer.
• Theproductdesigndetermineswhichofthecomponentsaresprayproof/waterproof.
Formoreinformation,pleaserefertotheusermanual(seeSection1).Immersing/sub-
mergingnon-waterproofproducts/componentsinwatermaydamagetheproduct,or,in
theworstcase,causedeathbyelectrocution.
• Operatingacertaintypeofproduct(e.g.machinesortools)requirestheuseofpersonal
protectiveequipmenttominimizehealthhazardsandotherrisks.
Thisincludes,forinstance,theuseofsuitableearprotectorsaswellaswearingmasks/
respirators,safetygoggles,gloves,safetyfootwearandclothing.
• Usingtheproductundertheinuenceofalcoholordrugs(prescribedorotherwise)may
posevarioushealthhazards.
4. Product protection
• Protect theproduct against high temperature,mechanicalimpact, strain, ammable
gases,anytypeofvapourandsolvents.
• Handletheproduct withcare.Mechanicalimpacts includingfallsfromlow heightwill
damagetheproduct.
• Theproductdesigndetermineswhichofthecomponentsaresprayproof/waterproof.
Formoreinformation,pleaserefertotheusermanual(seeSection1).Immersing/sub-
mergingnon-waterproofproducts/componentsinwatermayresultintheproductbeing
damaged.
• Donotimmediatelyconnecttheproducttomainspowerafteryou'vebroughtitfroma
coldintoawarmenvironment(e.g.duringtransport).Theresultingcondensationcan
destroythedevice,orresultinanelectricshock.
Makesurethedeviceisatroomtemperaturebeforeyouswitchiton.Waituntilallcon-
densationhasevaporated.Thismaytakeacoupleofhours.Don'tuseitbeforehand.
• Alwayscheckthevoltagerating.Observetheproduct-specicratingwhenitcomesto
input/outputvoltage/amperage,powerratingsetc.
5. Battery hazards
(removable and non-removable batteries)
• Swallowingabatterycanbelife-threatening!Seekimmediatemedicalhelp!
• Keepbatteriesoutofthereachofchildren.
• Damagedorpost-servicelifebatteriescanleakuid.Thismayresultinchemicalburns
toskinoreyes.Carefullyrinsetheaffectedbodypartswithplentyofwarmwaterand
seekmedicalattentionifrequired.
• Damagedbatteries/rechargeablescancatchreorexplode.
• Donotrechargenon-rechargeablebatteries.Thismayresultinabatteryreorexplo-
sion.
• Onlychargerechargeablebatteries.Makesureyouuseachargerthatissuitablefor
thebatteryyouwanttocharge.Usingthewrongchargermayresultinabatteryreor
explosion.
Keepaneyeonthebatteriesyucharge.Sincebatteriesheatupduringcharging,pro-
tectsensitivesurfacesusinganon-ammablecover.Keepthechargerawayfromam-
mablematerials(e.g.curtains).
Disconnectchargeranddeviceafterthebatteryhasbeenrecharged.
• Ifyourdeviceispoweredbyremovablebatteries,makesureyouusethebatterytype
speciedintheusermanualoronthedevice.
• Iftheproductneedsmorethanonebattery,don'tuserechargeableandnon-recharge-
ablebatteriesatthesametime.Don'tusebatterieswithdifferentchargelevelsoramp
ratings.Replaceallbatteries,notjustone.
• Batteriescontainmanychemicalsthatharmtheenvironment.Disposeofthebatteries
accordingtoenvironmentalguidelines(see"Disposal").
6. Products with built-in light sources/lasers
Examples: Torch, ceiling light, laser pointer, presenter, projector
• Caution!Donotlookintothelightor laserbeamgeneratedbyan opticalinstrument.
Thismaycausepermanentdamagetoyoureyes.
• Donotpointlasersatpeopleoranimals.
• Strobe/ickeringlightsmay causebalanceissues andeventriggerepileptic seizures
insomepeople.
7. Products with built-in fans
Examples: Heater, fan, charger
• Keepsmallitems,lightweightobjects,hairetcoutofthewayasthesemaygetsucked
intotheproductanddamageit.Thereisalsotheriskofgettinginjuredorcatchingre.
• Don'tcoveranyairintakeventsorblowernozzlesoftheproductasthisresultsinmal-
function.Moreover,itleadstooverheatingandposesarerisk.
• Don'tblockrotatingfanblades.Don'tstickyourngerinafan.Youmightgetinjured.
8. Products with a removable fuse
Examples: Multimeter, PSU, amplier
• Unplugthedeviceformthepowersourcebeforereplacingthefuse.
• Don'tbridgeablownfuse.There'saseriousriskofareorofdeathbyelectrocution.
• Alwaysreplacefuseslike-for-like(sametype,samerating).
• Ifthefuseblowsagain,unplugtheproductfromthepowersourceandgetittestedbya
qualiedengineer.Stopusingtheproduct.
9. Products that need to be tted
• Usethe appropriate xingmaterials (e.g.use screwsand wallplugs suitablefor the
substrate).
• Make sure you don'tdamage any cables or wires when drillingholes or tightening
screws.
• Don'tttheseproductstovehiclesunlessapprovedbytheproductmanufacturer.
10. Free-standing products
• Theproduct mustbe placedon ahorizontal, stable,smooth andappropriatelysized
surface.Donotplacetheproductoncarpetsandotherammablesubstrates.
• Protectvaluablesurfacesusingamattopreventscratchesordenting.
• Ensureproperproductcooling.Donotcovertheproduct.
11. Mains-powered products
Examples: TV, PC, charger, drill, ceiling lamp, iron, kitchen appliance
Inappropriateuseofmains-poweredproductsmayresultininjuryordeathbyelectrocu-
tion.
• Donottouchdevicesorpowercablesthatshowvisibledamage.Lifehazard!
Disconnect theproduct frommainsbyturningoff thefuseboxmainsbreakerorby
removingthefuseandswitchingofftheRCCB.Usesuitabletestingequipmenttocheck
whetherthedeviceisde-energised.
• ThemainsoutletneedstobeprotectedbyafuseandanRCDthattripsatthelegally
requiredamperage.
• Beforeconnectingthedevicemakesurethatthemainsvoltageratinginyourpartof
theworldmeetstheonestatedontheproduct'stypebadge.Makesurethedeviceis
switchedoffbeforeconnectingittomains.
a) Product to be connected to mains by screw contacts, solder lugs or
power cables with open ends.
• Theproductmustbeinstalledbyaqualiedengineerwhoisfamiliarwiththerelevant
industryregulations(e.g.VDEetc).
Productmustbeinstalledandconnectedwiththemainspowersupplybeingturned
off.SwitchoffboththerespectivefuseandtheRCDtoensurethatthemainspoweris
completelyoff.Preventaccidentalreconnectionbyputtingupawarningsignetc.Check
whethermainspowerisoffusingsuitabletestingequipment(digitalmultimeteretc).

-Type ofprotection(TN,IT, andTT) andtheresultingconnectiontypes (traditional
earthing,PG'ing,additionalmeasures,etc).
If youlacktheknow-howinoneoftheaboveareas,donotinstallandconnect the
productyourself.Callinaqualiedtradesperson.
• Makesureyoumaintaintherequiredspacebetweenlivecomponentsandpartsofthe
housing/otherwiring.
• IfthedeviceisClassIprotected,youneedtoconnecttheearthwire.Otherwise,equip-
mentfailuremaycauseinjuryordeathbyelectrocution.
• Removeanymetallicallyconductiveobjectssuchasnecklaces,armbands,ringsetc
beforeconnectingthedevice.
• Aftertheproduct hasbeendisconnectedfrommains,capacitorsthatarepartofthe
circuitrymaystillbecharged.Riskofinjuryordeathbyelectrocution.
b) Products with solder lug connectors
• Usesolderandequipmentsuitableforelectroniccomponents.
• Makesureyoucarryoutanysolderingworkswiftlytopreventoverheatingand,thus,
damagetotheproduct.
c) Products without touch protection
• Productswithouttouchprotection(e.g.electronicmodules,arrays,components,etc.)
areintendedforuseinapplianceswithhousings.
• Makesure you putsuitable touchprotection measures inplace beforeusing these
products.Otherwise,thismayresultininjuryordeathbyelectrocution.
• Secureallwiringaccordingly,andtastrainreliefifapplicable.
d) Products with a power cable
• Don'tsqueezepowercables.Protectthemfromsharpedges.Don'tputheavyobjects
oncables.Don'tsteponcables.Routethecablesinawaythatpreventspeoplefrom
trippingoverthem.Donotrunpowercablesunderacarpetetc.
• Damagedpowercablesthatarepermanentlyttedtodevicesmustbereplacedbya
qualiedengineer.
• Damagedremovablepowercablesneedtobereplacedlike-for-like(sametype/rating/
crosssection).Donotrepairdamagedpowercables!
e) Products with mains plug
• Themainsoutletusedtopowerthedeviceneedstobecloseandaccessible.
• Unplugmainssupplybygrabbingthedesignatedpartsoftheplug.Don'tpullaplug
outbyitscord.
f) Product with a separate PSU
• Makesurethatvoltagerating,polarity(+/-)andplugsize(inner/outerdiameter)comply
withthedevice'sspecsbeforeconnectingaproducttoamainsplugoraseparatePSU.
• IfthemainsPSUcomeswithacountry-specicadapter(EUstates,UK,etc)makesure
youplugintheadapterrstintherequiredway.
g) Products used outdoors
• Onlyinstall,connectandusetheproductinaccordancewithitsIPrating.Inappropriate
usemayresultininjuryordeathbyelectrocution.
• Anyrequiredterminals,cables,plugsorconnectorsneedtobesuitableforoutdooruse.
h) Products used indoors
• Onlyinstall,connectandusetheproductinaccordancewithitsIPrating.Inappropriate
usemayresultininjuryordeathbyelectrocution.
• Donotexpose product tomoisture orwater. Do notuse theproductinbathrooms,
showers,bathtubsetc.Thismayresultininjuryordeathbyelectrocution.
• Donottouch,connectoroperatedtheproductwhenyourhandsarewetormoist.This
mayresultininjuryordeathbyelectrocution.
• Donotpourliquidsover/nexttotheproduct.Thismayresultinareorininjury/death
byelectrocution.
Donottouchtheproduct afterliquidmanagedtogetinside.Disconnecttheproduct
fromthepowersupplyrightaway(removetherespectivefuse/switchoffRCCB and
RCD).Contactaserviceengineer.Stopusingtheproduct.
12. Cleaning & Maintenance
Readtheusermanualbeforeyoucleanorservicetheproduct(seeSection1).
Usingthewrongcleanersmaydamagetheproductandposeotherhazards.
13. Disposal
a) Product
 AnyelectricalandelectronicequipmentsoldintheEUmustdisplaythissym-
bol.Thissymboltellsyouthattheproductcannotbedisposedofviahousehold
wasteafternolongerbeinginuse.
LawrequiresallownersofWEEE(WastefromElectricalandElectronicEquipment)to
recyclethemseparately.Endconsumersmustremoveemptybatteriesorrechargeables
thatarenotanintrinsicpartofWEEEaswellaslightbulbsthatcanberemovedfrom
WEEEwithoutbreaking,beforetakingthemtoadesignatedcollectionpoint.
Distributorsof electricalandelectronic equipmentmust take backWEEE.At Conrad,

• atcommunalrecyclingcentres,orviaWEEE-compliantrecyclingschemessetupby

sumer,law(BatteryAct)requiresyoutorecycleallusedbatteriesappropriately.Donot
putbatteriesinyourhouseholdwaste.
 Batteriesthatcontainhazardous materialsdisplaythelogoshownheretotell
youthat theycannot bediscarded via householdwaste.The relevantheavy
metalsareCd=cadmium,Hg=mercury,Pb=lead(theelementnamesareshown
blowthebinsymbolonthebattery).
Youcanrecyclebatteriesfreeofchargebytakingthemtocommunalrecyclingcentres,
ourretailstoresandtoanyplacethatsellsbatteries.Doingthismeansyoubothobserve
thelawandhelpprotecttheenvironment.
Usetapetocoveranyexposedbatterycontacts topreventshortcircuiting.Evenfully
dischargedbatteriescontainenoughrest chargetopose ahealth risk(in theformof
bursting,heatingup,catchingre,exploding)intheeventofashortcircuit.
