From The Chairman
I would like to personally thank you
for selecting one of our effects pedals.
For over 40 years the Marshall name has been synonymous
with the greatest guitar tones in music. We have worked hand
in hand with guitarists from all levels throughout the world to
maintain and improve that special ingredient, ‘The Marshall
Sound.’
Our range of effects pedals gives the opportunity to augment
the classic Marshall tone to add Marshall character to a guitar
set-up.
All our pedals are made with the same utmost attention to
quality, in both materials and manufacture as our world
renowned amplifiers, cabinets and combos, in order to provide
you with optimum reliability and tone.
I would like to wish you every success with all of your musical
endeavours and also your new Marshall effects pedal, which I
am sure you will find a pleasure to play for many years to
come.
Yours Sincerely,

Introduction
Compression is perhaps one of the most useful and versatile
effects available to any guitarist who is interested in improving
their tone.
The purpose of the Compressor pedal is primarily to allow you
to modify the sustain and attack of your guitar sound. Using
classic variable gain techniques the Compressor will provide
masses of clean sustain, which you can utilise whatever your
style. The Compressor pedal senses the level of the incoming
guitar signal and as the signal level decays the gain of the
internal circuitry is boosted to provide extra level and hence
sustain.
The attack control modifies the dynamic response of the guitar
signal (the effect of plucking a string) and allows you to
achieve a range of effects from rounded and mellow to
percussive and funky.
The Compressor also features an Emphasis control which
allows you to assign compression and target the frequencies
you want to compress. This means that you can, for example,
tighten up or compress your bass notes and let your treble
notes ring out.
The Compressor features a passive bypass for the main signal
path to ensure complete tonal integrity and has a quality of
tone matched only by its versatility.
Here follows a complete run down of The Compressor’s
features for your information. We have also enclosed a
number of suggested settings to help guide you. It should be
remembered though that these are only suggested settings
and you should really take the time to experiment.
Though the Marshall Compressor can produce traditional type
effects it is also ideally suited to the player who wants
something a little bit dif ent. So take the time to explore thefer
sonic avenues opened to you by the Compressor, you won’t be
disappointed.
Features
1. Out Jack
This is the output of The Compressor and is for connection
to the amplifier or to another effects pedal.
Always use good quality shielded leads.
Always use 9V regulated DC supply with centre negative.
Although it may seem obvious the first action in achieving a
good effected sound (be it duration / compression etc.) is to
find the perfect bypassed sound. This will then allow the
correct level to be set with the effect unit to allow a cut or
boost in volume and a realistic tone.
On clean channels it is advisable to set the gain (or volume)
to a setting of no less than one quarter maximum so as not to
get unrealistic results due to any volume dependent tonal
shaping on the amplifier preamp.
As is inherent in circuits of this type the increase in gain at
low signal levels inevitably leads to unwanted extra noise as
the circuit gain is maximum when the signal level is
minimum. Many players overcome their problem with
discerning use of a swell pedal or simply utilising the bypass
footswitch during performance.
