PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
Pneumaticgrindersareportablehandheldtoolspowered
by compressed air. The motor drives a rotating spindle
on which a grinding wheel or other abrasive device is
mounted.Whenapplicable,thegrinderisequippedwith
a guard.
Failure to observe all safety warnings could result in
equipment damage or personnel injury.
INTENDED USE:
A pneumatic grinder is to be used only for removing
materialbyutilizingappropriateabrasivewheels,rotary
les or other material removal cutting devices. The
grinder must not be modied in any manner unless
approved in writing byApex Tool Group, LLC orApex
Tool Group GmbH & Co. OHG. All safety devices must
be properly installed and maintained in good working
order.
Any abuse or misuse of the cutting device can be
extremelydangerous.
GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS:
These Safety Instructions must be accessible to the
operator at alltimes.They must beshownand made
available to all personnel involved in the operation of this
equipment.
The operator must read and understand the
Safety Instructions contained in this document
before operating this equipment.
These Safety Instructions are not intended to be all
inclusive. The operator should also read and understand
the Product Manual for the specic tool. Study and
comply with all applicable Federal, State and Local
Regulations.
Do not remove any labels from this equipment. Replace
any label that has been damaged and can not be easily
read.
PRODUCT INSTALLATION:
Only qualied and trained personnel should install,
adjust or use this equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work areamust beclean, uncluttered, thoroughly
ventilatedandwellilluminated.
Make sure the work environment is free of
any ammable or combustible elements that
sparks from the grinding process could ignite.
SPEED CHECK:
Checkthetoolspeedbeforemountingawheel,afterany
repairs,wheneverthetoolisissuedforuseorevery24
hours.TheRPMofthegrindermustbecheckedwitha
calibrated tachometer to make certain its actual speed
doesnotexceeditsratedspeed.
Carefullydetermineifthereisamaximumspeedmarked
on the cutting device. If so, this speed must be greater
thantheratedspeedofthetool.Failuretocomplywith
this instruction could result in serious injury or death.
GRINDING WHEEL INSPECTION:
Allgrindingwheelsshouldbecloselyinspectedbefore
installation and use. Consult the safety procedures of
thegrindingwheelmanufacturer.Includeblotterswhen
required.
PROPER ABRASIVE MOUNTING:
Therearemanytypesofcuttingwheelsincludingstraight,
cone, plug, cup, depressed center and mounted. Consult
and comply with the Safety Instructions of the cutting
wheel manufacturer. Insure the proper manufacturer
recommendedspindle,angesandguardsarepresent
on the tool.
Alwaysuseproperlymountedguards,asprescribedfor
the cutting device being used per ANSI/CAGI B186.1. If
the guard has been damaged, it must be discarded and
replaced.
Generally,rotarylesandsomeothercuttingdevicesdo
notrequirewheelguards.Conrmthiswiththecuttingtool
manufacturerandconformwiththeirrecommendations.
After mounting the cutting device and guard, the tool
should be started under a steel bench or similarly
protective area. Make sure safety glasses are worn.
Run at full speed for at least one minute to insure proper
operation.
GRINDING WITHOUT A GUARD:
Operators may use the grinder without a
guardonlyif they followtheserequirements.
Improper use of agrinder without a guard,
includingfailuretofollowtheserequirements,
could result in seriour injury or death.
Type 1 Wheel: Do not use a wheel larger than 2”
(50mm) in diameter or more than 1/2” (13mm) thick.
Neverexceedaperipheralspeedof1800surfacefeet
per minute (548.64m/min).
Type 1 Reinforced Wheel:Donotuseawheellarger
than3”(76mm)indiameterormorethan1/4”(6.4mm)
thick.Neverexceedaperipheralspeedof9500surface
feetperminute(2895.6m/min).
Grinding Wheels:Usedforinternalwork,whilewithin
theworkbeingground.
Mounted Wheels:Donotuseamountedwheelwitha
diametergreaterthan2”(50mm).
Other Cutting Devices: Do not use small cones, plugs,
threaded hole pot balls, or other similar devices that
exceed 3” (75mm) in diameter and 5” (125mm) long
withoutaguardunlesstheworkprovidesprotection.
CUT-OFF WHEELS (Type 1 and Type 27):
Securetheworkpiecetoprovideacleancutandreduce
the possibility of binding.
Ifthe cut-offwheel becomesjammed, turn thegrinder
offandfreethewheel.Makesurethewheelissecurely
attached and not damaged before continuing the
operation.
Never use a cut-off wheel to perform a side grinding
operation.

AIR SUPPLY:
Inspecttheairhoseandttingsthoroughly.Donotuse
damaged, frayed or deteriorated hoses. A hose rupture
can cause serious injury.
Connect the tool to an airline with clean dry air and a
maximumpressureof90psig(6.2bar).
Neverconnect aquickdisconnectttingattheairinlet
ofgrinderswithawheeldiameteroffourinches(10cm)
or greater.
Adjust the airline lubrication to a minimum to reduce
possible contamination of the environment by the
exhaustair.
Always disconnect the tool from the air supply before
performing any adjustments, repairs or installation of an
abrasive device.
Immediately shut off the tool in the case of unusual
sound or vibration.
Turn off the air supply, bleed the air pressure and
disconnectthetoolfromtheairhose.Haveaqualied
person check the tool and repair before placing back
into service.
Ifrepairsarenecessary,useonlyApexToolGroup,LLC
orApex Tool Group GmbH & Co. OHG manufactured
replacement parts.
PRODUCT OPERATION:
Safety glasses or a face shield must be worn when
operating these tools. Wear gloves that do not restrict
proper operation of the tool, ear protection and
other protective equipment, as required by the work
environment and grinding application.
Do not wear loose clothing, jewelry or rings and keep
longhairawayfromtool.Avoiddirectskincontactwith
lubricants, grease or adhesives.
Make certain all personnel in the immediate area of the
grinding operation are equipped with the appropriate
personal protective equipment before operating the
tool.
Keep the tool clean and dry to provide the best possible
grip.The tool should be held in such a wayto assure
safe and comfortable operation. Keep your body stance
balanced and do not overreach while operating this
equipment.
Power tools can vibrate during use. Vibration and
repetitive motions may be harmful. Stop using this
equipment immediately if you experience discomfort,
a tingling sensation or pain and seek medical advice
before resuming operation.
Theprimarysource ofvibrationwhen usingaportable
grinderisanabrasivewheelthatisoutofbalance,outof
round, untrue, or possibly a combination of all three. The
use of quality abrasive wheels that are well balanced,
round and true is highly recommended to signicantly
reduce tool vibration.
Avoidexcessivepressureorsuddenimpactofthecutting
deviceontheworkpiece.
Donotlaythetooldownuntilthecuttingdevicehascome
to a complete stop. Make certain the tool has stopped
before moving to a different location.
Never carry or drag the tool by grasping the air supply
line.
SAFETY MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST:

Implement a comprehensive safety maintenance
program to provide regular inspection for all phases of
tooloperationandairsupplyequipment.Replaceworn
or damaged parts using only genuine brand replacement
parts manufactured byApexTool Group, LLC orApex
Tool Group GmbH & Co. OHG.
Daily:
Visual inspection of air supply hose and •
connections.
Inspectallexternaltoolcomponents•
Inspect the cutting device for cracks or damage•
Make sure the cutting device is securely mounted.•
Checkthetoolforexcessivevibrationornoise.•
Weekly:
Inspect the air supply hose for damage.•
Make sure the air inlet adapter is securely •
tightened.
Make sure all tool fasteners are properly tightened.•
Inspectthewheelguard(ifequipped)fordamage.•
6 Months or sooner if needed:
Check individual parts and replace as necessary•
Replace all O-ring and seals•
Onlyqualied andtrained personnelshould repairthis
equipment. Refer to the Sales and Service Center listing
ontheback ofthisdocumentfor authorizedApexTool
Group, LLC or Apex Tool Group GmbH & Co. OHG
repair facilities.
