OM11
OVERVIEW
The OM11 is a re-issue of the original OM1, a hand-made microphone first issued in
1985. Designed, assembled, machined and tested by Audix in the USA, the OM11 is
a dynamic vocal microphone used for a wide variety of live, studio, and broadcast
applications. The OM11 is known for its sharp, crisp vocal sound, resistance to
feedback and ability to handle high sound pressure levels without distortion.
The OM11 is characterized with a tight and uniformly controlled hypercardioid polar
pattern which helps to isolate the vocals from the rest of the instruments on stage.
With a wide frequency range of 50 Hz - 18 kHz, the OM11 employs a VLM™(Very
Low Mass) diaphragm for a very clean and natural sound with exceptional transient
response.
The OM11 response is tailored to cut through the mix, providing presence and
articulation to the vocals even at very high stage volumes. In addition to having
extremely low handling noise, the OM11 is well balanced, comfortable to hold,
durable and manufactured with very high standards and tight tolerances.
Roadworthy construction includes a two stage machined brass body, durable black
e-coat finish, dent resistent steel mesh grill and gold plated XLR connector.

POLAR PATTERNS
ARCHITECT AND ENGINEER SPECIFICATIONS
The microphone shall be of the dynamic type and the polar pattern of the
microphone shall be hypercardioid. The nominal output impedance shall be
equal to 200 ohms at 1 kHz. The microphone shall have a sensitivity of 1.9 mV/
Pa at 1 kHz and a sound pressure level ≥140 dB. The microphone body shall
be machined of brass and the grill cap shall be steel wire mesh. The overall
dimensions shall be 21.7 mm in diameter at the base, 54 mm in diameter at the
widest point on the grill and 179 mm in length.
OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE
The OM11 is a low impedance microphone and should be plugged into the
“mic level” input of your console, mixer, or recording device. Please note that
your microphone does not require phantom power and will not be affected
in any way by phantom power should it be running simultaneously while the
microphone is in operation. Avoid plugging or unplugging the microphone
from a PA system unless the channel is muted or the volume of the system
turned down. Failure to do so may result in a loud “popping noise which could
seriously damage the speakers in the PA system.
The OM11 is manufactured to exacting specs with roadworthy construction.
However, the capsule is highly sensitive and should be handled with care. Avoid
extreme temperatures and be sure to store your microphone in the pouch
provided when not in use. Moisture of any kind can adversely effect the sound
and performance of your microphone.
USER TIPS
The OM11 has a tight pick-up pattern in order to help eliminate sound from
other instruments on stage from “bleeding” into the microphone. For best results,
it is important to sing directly into the mic at close proximity (within 2 inches).
When using floor monitors, position the microphone so that it is parallel to the
floor. When using multiple microphones on a live performance stage, allow a
distance of 2-3 feet between mics to avoid phase issues.
