Thank you
Thank you for choosing an sE microphone! In addition to some basic safety precautions, this manual
includes details and specifications that we hope will assist you in getting the most out of your Gemini II.
Please take a few minutes to read through it.
Capturing great audio is our passion. We sincerely hope you’ll enjoy the sound of this mic as much as we
enjoyed designing and building it for you.
Happy Tracking,
The sE Team
Brief Description
The Gemini II is our homage to the classic era of valve microphones. We wanted to create something
uniquely modern and versatile, while preserving the larger-than-life sonic legacy that defined tube mics of
decades past. This large-diaphragm cardioid condenser has that signature warmth and weight to its sound,
courtesy of a 12AX7 input valve, while boasting an unattenuated presence range. Where most microphones
have an output transformer, we have instead added a 12AU7 valve, giving the Gemini II the pristine top end
that you’d expect from an expensive solid-state mic. Vocal tones recorded with the Gemini II sound polished,
and ready to take front and center in your mix.
The Gemini II isn’t only for vocals, though. We’ve equipped it with a switchable low cut filter, as well as a
switchable -10dB pad, allowing it to shine on a variety of sources. In the drum room, on an acoustic guitar,
capturing the boom of timpani, or the intimacy of a cello, the Gemini II will not let you down.
All sE microphones are built by hand at our headquarters in Shanghai. We take pride in the attention to detail
under which our products are crafted, therefore the entirety of manufacturing is done in our own facilities. We
also test and measure the tubes for each Gemini II to ensure optimal performance.
What’s in the box
Your Gemini II includes a custom flight case to safely transport the microphone and its necessary
accessories. If anything is missing, please contact your sE Electronics dealer for assistance.

filter at 0Hz when engaged. When switched to the left, the filter is removed for a flat 15
frequency response. This low-cut switch is useful for reducing wind noise, plosives, footfall
noise or rumble that ght adversely affect the recorded signal. Additionally, e low-cut mi th
filter will minimize the proximity effect when - placing the microphone a “close miking,” i.e.
very short distance from the source.

Before powering on, connect all required cables (IEC to power, XLR to preamplifier or interface, and 8-pin
cable from floor box to microphone). Then turn the power on via the switch on the back of the Gemini II floor
box.
For best performance, we recommend allowing approximately 15 minutes of “warm up time before
recording. This allows the tubes within the Gemini II to heat up and stabilize and reduces the risk of unwanted
noise or distortion on your recordings.
