USBFingerprintKeyboard(hereaftercalledthekeyboard).

Productdescription

Thissectionprovidesageneraldescriptionofthekeyboard.

Thekeyboardisequippedwithmanyfunctionsthataddconvenienceandsecuritytoyourcomputer.Instead

ofusingapassword,theﬁngerprintreaderonthekeyboardenablesyoutoswipeyourﬁngerprinttoaccess

yourcomputerresources.Asmultipleuniqueﬁngerprintsareavailableatyourﬁngertipsandarestored

securelyonyourcomputer,youcanbeassuredthatyourpersonalinformationisprotected.

LEDisnotilluminated,thecursorcontrolonthenumerickeypadisenabled.PresstheNumericLock

(NumLkorNmLk)keytoswitchbackandforthbetweenthesemodes.

•CapsLockLED:

WhentheCapsLockLEDisilluminated,theCapsLockmodeisenabled.Inthismode,youcantypeall

alphabeticcharacters(A-Z)inuppercasewithoutpressingtheShiftkey.WhentheLEDisnotilluminated,

theCapsLockmodeisdisabled.ToenableordisabletheCapsLockmode,presstheCapsLock(Caps

LockorCapsLk)key.

•ScrollLockLED:

WhentheScrollLockLEDisilluminated,theScrollLockmodeisenabled.Thearrowkeyscanbeused

asscreen-scrollfunctionkeysandthecursorcannotbemovedwiththearrowkeys.Notallapplication

programssupportthisfunction.WhentheScrollLockLEDisnotilluminated,thearrowkeyscanbeused

forcursormovement,notasscreen-scrollfunctionkeys.PresstheScrollLock(ScrLk)keytoswitch

backandforthbetweenthesemodes.

opentheThinkVantageProductivityCenterortheLenovoCare SM programforcomprehensivehelpand

informationforyourcomputer.

Note:TheThinkVantageProductivityCenterortheLenovoCareprogramcomeswithyourcomputer.If

youdonothaveeitheroftheminstalledonyourcomputer,pressingtheThinkVantagebuttonwillopenthe

WindowsSystemInformationwindow.

3Fingerprintreader

Withtheintegratedﬁngerprintreader,youcanenrollyourﬁngerprintsandassociatethemwithapower-on

password,aharddiskdrivepassword,orbothbeforehand.Thustheﬁngerprintauthenticationcanreplace

passwordsandenablesimpleandsecureuseraccess.

Attention:Power-onandharddiskdrivepasswordssupportrequiresthatﬁngerprintrecognitionbe

supportedbyyourcomputerBasicInputOutputSystem(BIOS).IfyourcomputerBIOSsupportsﬁngerprint

recognition,youcanstartthecomputer,logontothesystem,andentertheBIOSSetupUtilitybyswiping

yourﬁngeroverthereader,withouttypingapassword.

Tocreateapassportandenrollyourﬁrstﬁngerprint,dothefollowing:

1.OpentheThinkVantageFingerprintSoftwarewindowbydoingoneofthefollowing:

•ClickStart➙AllPrograms➙ThinkVantage➙ThinkVantageFingerprintSoftware.The

ThinkVantageFingerprintSoftwarewindowopens.

•ClickStart➙AllPrograms➙LenovoThinkVantageTools.Then,double-clickFingerprint

Reader.TheThinkVantageFingerprintSoftwarewindowopens.

2.EnteryourWindowspasswordandclickSubmit.TheEndUserAgreementwindowisdisplayed.

3.CarefullyreadtheEndUserAgreementandclickAccept.

Note:YoumustagreetotheEndUserAgreementtoinstalltheproduct.

4.Whenadialogwithtwohandsisdisplayed,selectaﬁngertoenrollbyclickingthebuttonabovethe

ﬁnger.

5.Swipetheselectedﬁngerovertheﬁngerprintsensor.Goodqualitymatchingﬁngerprintsarerequired.It

isstronglyrecommendedthatyouenrollmorethanoneﬁngerintheeventofinjury.

6.(Optional-onlyifsupportedbyyourcomputer)APower-onbuttonisdisplayedaboveeachﬁnger.

ClickthePower-onbuttonabovetheselectedﬁnger.Theselectedﬁngerwillbeusedinsteadofyour

power-onand/orharddiskpasswords(BIOSpasswords)atthesystemstartup.

Notes:

•IfyoudonotuseaWindowspassword,youwillbepromptedtodeﬁneone.Thisisoptional,buta

passwordimprovesthesecurityofyoursoftware.

•Formoreinformationaboutenrollingyourﬁngerprintforpower-onandharddiskdrivepasswords

Swipingyourﬁngerovertheﬁngerprintreader

Toswipeyourﬁngerovertheﬁngerprintreader,dothefollowing:

1.Placeyourﬁngertiponthesmallcircularindentationabovethereader,asshownbelow.Ensurethatthe

restofyourﬁngerisﬂatonthereader.

ThissectionprovidesinformationabouttheﬁngerprintreadersettingsintheBIOS.

SettinguptheﬁngerprintreaderintheBIOS

TosetuptheﬁngerprintreaderinyourcomputerBIOS,dothefollowing:

1.Setapower-onpasswordoraharddiskdrivepassword,orboth.

2.Turnoffthecomputerandthenturniton.

3.Whenprompted,swipeyourﬁngerovertheﬁngerprintreader.

4.Typeyourpower-onpassword,yourharddiskdrivepassword,orbothasrequested.Theenrolled

ﬁngerprintisnowassociatedwithyourpower-onpassword,yourharddiskdrivepassword,orboth.

Theﬁrsttimeyoustartthecomputer,youwillneedtologontothesystembyswipingyourﬁngeroverthe

readeronceandenteringyourpasswordtoassociatethetwo.Thenexttimeyoustartthecomputer,you

canlogontothesystembyswipingyourﬁngeroverthereaderonce.

Attention:Ifyoualwaysuseyourﬁngerprinttologontothesystem,youmayforgetyourBIOSpassword.

Writedownyourpasswordandkeepitinasafeplace.Ifyouforgetyourpasswordandcannotswipeyour

ﬁnger,youcannotstartthecomputerorchangethepassword.Foroptimalperformance,enrollmore

thanoneﬁngerprint.

Ifyouforgetyourpower-onpassword,youmusttakeyourcomputertoaLenovoservicerepresentative

tohavethepassworderased.

Ifyouforgetyourharddiskdrivepassword,Lenovowillnotresetyourpasswordorrecoverdatafromthe

harddiskdrive.YoumusttakeyourcomputertoaLenovoservicerepresentativetohavetheharddiskdrive

replaced.Proofofpurchaseisrequired,andafeewillbechargedforpartsandservice.

ChangingtheBIOSsettingsfortheﬁngerprintreader

Note:TheinformationinthistopicappliestocertainThinkPad ®computermodelsonly.

TheFingerprintsubmenuundertheSecuritymenuoftheBIOSSetupUtilityprogramoffersthefollowing

choices:

•Predesktopauthentication:Enablesordisablestheﬁngerprintauthenticationbeforetheoperating

systemisloaded.

•SecurityMode:Speciﬁesthesettingsofthesecuritymode.

Tochangethesettingsoftheﬁngerprintreader,dothefollowing:

1.Printtheseinstructions.

2.Saveallopenﬁlesandexitallapplications.

3.Turnoffthecomputerandthenturniton.

4.Whenthe“Tointerruptnormalstartup...”messageisdisplayedonthelowerleftsideofthewindow,

pressF1.TheBIOSSetupUtilitywindowopens.

5.Usingthecursorkeys,movetoSecurityandpressEnter.TheSecuritymenuopens.

6.Usingthecursorkeys,movetoFingerprintandpressEnter.TheFingerprintmenuopens.

7.Usingthecursorkeys,movetoanitemyouwanttoset.Whenthatitemishighlighted,pressEnter.

8.Usingthecursorkeys,selectthesettingyouwanttouseandpressEnter.ANoticewindowisdisplayed,

sayingChangeshavebeensavedandpresentingyouwithachoiceContinue.

9.PressEntertocontinue.

10.Usingthecursorkeys,makeotherﬁngerprintsettingsdependingonyourneeds.

11.PressF10toexit.

12.IntheSetupConﬁrmationwindow,selectY estosaveconﬁgurationchangesandexit.

EnrollingyourﬁngerprintsforBIOSpasswords

T oenrollyourﬁngerprintsforBIOSpasswords(power-onandharddiskdrivepasswords),dothefollowing:

1.Dependingonyouroperatingsystem,dooneofthefollowing:

•ClickStart➙AllPrograms➙ThinkVantage➙ThinkVantageFingerprintSoftware.The

ThinkVantageFingerprintSoftwarewindowopens.

•ClickStart➙AllPrograms➙LenovoThinkVantageT ools.Then,double-clickFingerprint

Reader.TheThinkVantageFingerprintSoftwarewindowopens.

2.EnteryourWindowspasswordandclickSubmit.

3.Whenadialogwithtwohandsappears,selectaﬁngertoenrollbyclickingthecorrespondingWindows

buttonabovetheﬁnger.TheEnrollmentwindowopens.

4.Swipetheselectedﬁngerovertheﬁngerprintreaderonyourcomputer.Keepscanninguntiltheprogress

barreaches100%.Then,youwillreturntothedialogwithtwohandsandtherewillbeagreencircle

aroundtheimageoftheﬁngeryoujustenrolledandtheWindowsbuttonabovetheﬁngerishighlighted.

5.Dooneofthefollowingdependingonyouroperatingsystem:

•(Onlyifsupportedbyyourcomputer)APower-onbuttonisdisplayedaboveeachﬁnger.Click

thePower-onbuttonabovetheselectedﬁnger.Theselectedﬁngerwillbeusedinsteadofyour

power-onand/orharddiskdrivepasswordsatsystemstartup.

•ClickSettings.TheSettingswindowopens.Dothefollowing:

a.InthePower-onSecurityarea,selectUseﬁngerprintscaninsteadofpower-onandhard

drivepasswords.

b.ClickOK.TherewillbeahighlightedPower-onbuttonabovetheimageoftheﬁngeryoujust

enrolled,indicatingthatyouhavesuccessfullyenrolledyourﬁngerprintsforBIOSpasswords.

Thefollowingactionscoulddamagetheﬁngerprintreaderorcauseitnottoworkproperly:

•Scratchingthesurfaceofthereaderwithahard,pointedobject.

•Scrapingthesurfaceofthereaderwithyournailoranythinghard.

•Usingortouchingthereaderwithadirtyﬁnger.

Gentlycleanthesurfaceofthereaderwithadry,soft,lint-freeclothifyounoticeanyofthefollowing

conditions:

•Thesurfaceofthereaderisdirtyorstained.

•Thesurfaceofthereaderiswet.

•Thereaderoftenfailstoenrollorauthenticateyourﬁngerprint.

Youmightnotbeabletoregisterorauthenticateitifyourﬁngerhasanyofthefollowingconditions:

•Yourﬁngeriswrinkled.

•Yourﬁngerisrough,dry,orinjured.

•Yourﬁngerisstainedwithdirt,mud,oroil.

•Thesurfaceofyourﬁngerisverydifferentfromwhatitwaswhenyouenrolledyourﬁngerprint.

•Yourﬁngeriswet.

•Aﬁngerthathasnotbeenenrolledisused.

T ryusingthefollowingmethodsifyouhaveproblemsregisteringorauthenticatingaﬁngerprint:

•Cleanorwipeyourhandstoremoveanyexcessdirtormoisturefromtheﬁngers.

•Enrollanduseadifferentﬁngerforauthentication.

•Ifyourhandsaretoodry,applylotiontothem.
