LCD screen
Information on LCD screen
LCDscreen:Notes:
High-quality TFT displays with especially bright backg round lighting are installed in
notebooks from Fujitsu Technology Solutions GmbH. For technical reasons, TFT monitors
are manufactured for a specic resolution. An optimal, clear picture can only be ensured
with the correct resolution intended for th e relevant TFT monitor. A monitor resolution
which differs from the specication can result in a n unclear picture.
The monitor resolution is understood to be the number of horizontal and vertical pixels (i.e. picture
elements) wh ich make up the monitor display. For example, "UXGA" stands for 1600 x 1200
pixels. Each pixel consists of three so-called subpixels o f the colours red, green and blue.
As a result, a UXGA monitor consists of 1600 x 1200 x 3 = 5.760.000 subpixels.

XGA 1024 x 768
SXGA 1280 x 1024

Using your notebook
Perman ently unlit or lit pixels
The standard of production techniques today cannot guarantee an absolutely fault-free screen
display. A few isolated constant lit or unlit pixels may be present. The maximum permitted number
of pixels faults is stipula ted in the strict international standard ISO 13406-2 (Class II).
Example:
A 15" LCD screen monitor with a resolution of 1024 x 768 has 1024 x 768 = 786432 pixels. Each
pixel consists of three subpixels (red, green and blue), so there are almost 2.4 million subpixels in
total. According to ISO 13406-2 (Class II), a maximum of 4 pixels and 5 subpixels may be defective,
i.e. a total of 17 defective subpixe ls. That is approx. 0.0007 % of the entire set of subpixels!
Pixel A pixel consists of 3 sub pixels, normally red, green and blue. A pixel is
the smallest element that can be generated by complete functionality
of the display.
Subpixel A su bpixel is a separately addressable internal structure within a pixel
that enhances th e pixel function.
Cluster A cluster contains two or more defective pixels or subpixels in a 5 x 5
pixel b l ock.
Background lighting
TFT monitors are operated with background lighting. The luminosity of the background
lighting can decrease during the period of use of the notebook. However, you can
set the brightness of your monitor individually.
