T
PZM 10 (LL)
he A K G / C r o w n PZM10 is a Pressure
Zone Microphone
® desi ed for gn
security, surveillance, and conference-
table use.
PRESSUREZONE
MICROPHONE
Si e it nc does not l k oo like a microphone, it is
inconspicuous. The mics t lar housi ubu ng
mounts in a 25/32" diameter hole in a ceiling
panel, wall or table.
Like other Pressure Zone Microphones, the
PZM10 es a miniature mic capsulus e
mounted very near a sound-reflecting plate or
boundary, in the Pressure Zone. In this zone,
direct sound from the sound source combines
in ase at all eph fr quencies with reflected
sound o the boundary. The benets are
many: 6 dB more sensitivity, 6 dB less noise, a
wide smooth efr quency response ee ofr f
phase interference, excellent clarity and
r ,each and consistent pickup anywhere
around the mic.
In the M10, low ePZ fr quencies below the
voice range are rolled o to reduce pickup of
air conditi ing rumble. The hi - eon gh fr quency
response is boosted slightly to help articula-
tion. Because of its tailored response and PZM
constr , the 0 wuc onti PZM1 ill pick up conver-
sations or other desired sounds with extra
clarity and definition.
The microphone connector is an XLR t e yp
(3-pin pro audio) for easy pl -in i taug ns llation.
The ou put t is balanced, low i edamp nce, which
allows long cable r s wun ithout hum pickup or
hi - egh fr quency loss. Powering is by 12 to
48 V phantom power.
The PZM10 LL has a line level output.
The mics humbucking transformer and steel
case prevent hum pickup, even near fluores-
cent lights.
Installation
To pick up speech at a small conference table
(about 6 f t square), mount e 0 iee on PZM1 n
the mi le of the table. For longer tables, dd use
one PZM in the middle of every 4 to 6 people.
No person should be more than 3 f t om ee fr
the nearest microphone.
1. Pl se refer to Fig. 2 and identify the paea rts
shown.
2. Determine ere u want to iwh yo nstall the
microphone, and drill a 25/32" diameter hole

3. Obtain some 2-conductor ielded mish c
cable, l g enough to run om your eon fr quip-
ment input to the microphone. If space is ti t gh
behind the mounting rface, tain a t- su ob righ
angle female XLR connector. Solder the fe-
male XLR connector to the cable: on shield to
pin 1, hot l d to pin 2, other l d to pin 3. ea ea
4. Run the female XLR and mic cable to the

5. Using a 5/ " A32 llen wrench, remove the
collar from the microphone. I ert the micro- ns
phone tube into the hole.
6. Slide the collar to the mic t e. Pull thon ub e

7. Plug your mic cable into the microphone.
8. Plug the other end of your mic cable into
one of these devices:
* A mic pr mp that suppea lies phantom power.
* A mixer that supplies phantom power.
* A phantom power supply, such as the A K G /
C r o w n PH4B or PH1A.
Connect the out t of the supply to the mipu c
i t of your mic pr , mixer or renpu eamp corder.
